The city of Los Angeles - and the greater metro area surrounding it - is one of the most popular places to visit in the United States. The area is world famous as the home of Hollywood stars, Disneyland, great beaches, fantastic outdoor recreation, and more activities than you can possibly imagine. Visiting LA has its drawbacks (mostly getting around), but a well-planned trip to Los Angeles is one that won't find you bored.
The modern city of LA embodies glitz and glamour, but that doesn't mean visitors can't enjoy themselves on a budget. The biggest decision to make when planning your holiday in Los Angeles is where to stay - the metro area is enormous, and since public transportation leaves much to be desired, many people choose to rent a car as the best way to get around. Unfortunately, having a car in LA means you are at once subjected to the city's notoriously bad traffic - so even if you are driving to and from the various sights, it's a good idea to choose a Los Angeles hostel that's located close to most of the things you want to see and do.
It's impossible to list in one brief paragraph - or even a few - all of the attractions in Los Angeles, but suffice to say that the city's year-round good weather combines nicely with the almost never-ending selection of activities. There are boutique shops, sandy beaches, art galleries, sporting events, gorgeous vistas, movie industry sights, music venues, and so much more. And of course there’s all the beautiful people, including celebrities from all facets of the entertainment world, making Los Angeles one of the top spots for people-watching.
There are five airports serving Los Angeles, including the huge Los Angeles International Airport, and it's worth checking fare prices to each one to see if you can find a better deal at a smaller airport. Keep in mind, however, that these airports are fairly well spread out over the entire LA area, so if your visit is targeted in one particular neighbourhood you'd be smart to fly in and out of the airport closest to that neighbourhood in order to avoid too much driving.
