However the A/C in the room we were first allocated did not work properly so we looked at two other rooms before settling on one (for $16) where A/C worked but still not very cool.

the hotel staff seem to be helpful, and got us some train tickets, but they told us the wrong time for the train just to make sure we cleared out of the room (which meant we got up much earlier than we needed to and were sat downstairs for 40 minutes without aircon in blistering heat - not what you want before a three hours train journey).
