    We spent our first 3 days in Hanoi at the Zephyr hotel because of it's proximity to Lake Hoan Kiem and the Old quarter,but were very disappointed in the room standard.However

    We arrived from Sa Pa via Lao Cai train at 5AM and were told our room was not available and asked to wait 8 hours or pay a half day's rate, despite mentioning as much when we booked (they ultimately let us go into the room without charging us).

    Rooms are big enough to accommodate 2 persons with nice views on the swimming pool or the lake, dark wood furniture, LCD TV screen with a large choice of international channels, huge bathroom with good amenities...

    Atmosphere is chic but warm, rooms are stylish but comfortable (pillow menu, huge bathroom with double sinks and rainforest shower), grounds are lovely and food options quite acceptable.
