Very much a character hotel that was built with the recycled bricks (before this was trendy) from the 1906 fire, and used as a cannery for many years and subsequently designated as a civic historical site before being restored into the present facility.

We did the Alcatraz night tour (it's best to get tickets from home on-line because they sell out) and it was pretty cool walking through the prison and having your own headsets to guide you.
