As for the front-desk staff, they were neither friendly nor unfriendly - they just did the bare minimum during check-in and check-out (I would classify them as ""warm bodies"").

I waited for about an hour and then I decided to call the front desk and inform them of the smell and she said that the room shouldn't smell that way and immediately put us in another room.
