The main hotel restaurant, Restaurant Avista Navios, which serves superb breakfasts, lunches and evening meals which were so good that, in our short stay, we felt no need to try the renowned Bela Vista Restaurant which is situated on the original old manor house itself.

The food is first class (even the set menu - a choice of of fresh fish or meat every day), the restaurant staff are efficient (attentive without being intrusive) and the regular Maitre d’ charming.

Breakfasts were very good, lots of fresh bread and fresh fruit as well as the usual hot options, and we had dinner two evenings in the a la carte restaurant which was also lovely - the service was just right, very attentive, but not so as to spoil the romantic atmosphere.

The tables in the dining room and the a la carte restaurant are beautifully set, the food and wines are good and at breakfast there is even the luxury of butter balls and delicious jams and marmalades in large dishes from which you help yourself.

Set on a hill overlooking the sweep of Funchal and its bay, the Quinta is a place where tranquility, superb service, delicious food, lush gardens and just the right amount of civilised amenity (swimming pool, gym, tennis courts) make for a refreshing getaway.
