Mostly we ate at the Magic tea rooms just outside the hotel complex which was excellent value for money and was a shame it only opened during the day.

whilst the Grand may be a little further out from Funchal than some of the other Pestana hotels it is sited within easy distance of some wonderful restaraunts and at the top of the road 200mtr away is Forum Shopping with pleanty of shops from normal supermarkets to designer outlets and for the kids there is the normal fast food burger bars, for a reasonably priced meal we found that Grannys House on the main road towards the Lido Shopping centre was very good and also China Town in the Lido shopping centre excellent, but most restaraunts are excellent value and offer specialities of there own.

The situation of the hotel is good, most rooms look out onto the Atlantic (you will pay a premium, but it is worth it, especially if you are in a room that is elevated), as does the gardens and pool areas.

The walk down into town takes a good 40 minutes but is worth it.
