Guest Reviews of Pestana Grand Hotel Funchal Based on a 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent) rating system

First impressions were very good, the hotel is well appointed, location is a way out of Funchal but there are several shops and restaurants nearby, including a large shopping centre and a smaller one both with decent supermarkets.

Nice little wine/shop and bar just up the hill from Real Canoa, a lovely couple running it and very reasonable wines by the glass

whilst the Grand may be a little further out from Funchal than some of the other Pestana hotels it is sited within easy distance of some wonderful restaraunts and at the top of the road 200mtr away is Forum Shopping with pleanty of shops from normal supermarkets to designer outlets and for the kids there is the normal fast food burger bars, for a reasonably priced meal we found that Grannys House on the main road towards the Lido Shopping centre was very good and also China Town in the Lido shopping centre excellent, but most restaraunts are excellent value and offer specialities of there own.

Not even a five minute walk to go to the nearby shopping centre, and I must say the choice of shops is fantastic.

Along the road to town are some good restaurants, and just up the slip road to the hotel is a big indoor mall called 'Forum', which is virtually brand new.

There is a large shopping centre just at the top of the road with a big supermarket Rooms - We had a double room and the room is massive - the biggest we've had abroad.

The location is the best thing that the Hotel has to offer, as it is away from the busy main road into Funchal and there's great shopping and restaurants nearby.

Madeira: Funchal is a nice town with plenty of shops (although most sempt to be shoe shops and women’s clothes shops).

We visited the shopping Forum just up the road which was nice but what i felt really let down the place was the lack of restaurants and places to have a nice drink.

There is an excellent new shopping centre a 100 metres away with a wide range of something like 100 shops, probably better than going down town for shopping anyway.
