Fascinating shopping and sightseeing area three kilometers from the hotel. Wander through a maze of 36 vibrant, narrow streets with over a thousand years of history. The area is known for its tunnel houses - so called because their small frontages hide very long rooms. Tiny shopfronts sell exquisitely embroidered silk paintings, lacquerware, gorgeous bolts of silk and readymade silk clothing for men and women.

Only ten minutes drive from Hotel Nikko Hanoi, the final resting place of Ho Chi Minh is a glass sarcophagus set inside a huge building that has become a site of pilgrimage. Behind the Mauseoleum is a stilt house where Ho lived from 1958 to 1969. Built in the style of Vietnam's ethnic minorities, the house has been preserved just as Ho left it. Near the stilt house is the Presidential Palace, a beautifully restored colonial building, built in 1906 and used for official receptions.

Founded in 1070 and dedicated to Confucius, the Temple of Literature is a rare example of well-preserved traditional Vietnamese architecture. Made up of five separate courtyards, the central pathways and gates between them were reserved for the king. Featuring 82 stelae, considered the most precious artifacts in the temple, each one sits on a stone tortoise. Well worth a visit and a pleasant retreat from the streets of Hanoi. Hoan Kien Lake is an enchanting lake situated right in the heart of Hanoi. Surrounded by trees, it is a pleasant stroll with many opportunities for photographs. In the middle of the lake is the tiny Tortoise Pagoda topped with a red star. The lake is known to be the residence of one or more very large turtles which are rarely seen. Located two kilometers from the hotel.

This pagoda is the official center of Buddhism in Hanoi, attracting mostly old women during the holidays. During the 17th century, there was a guesthouse here for the ambassadors of Buddhist countries. Today, about a dozen monks and nuns live here. A store sits next to the pagoda selling Buddhist ritual objects. A five minute walk from the hotel.
