My one gripe was the service which was variable, for instance: On check in we received a warm and professional welcome - on check out we were delayed by about 10 minutes while the staff slowly corrected an error on our bill - despite me expressly requedsting it to be fixed 30 minutes earlier, they did not attend to it until it was time to pay.

Smiling, friendly personnel welcomed us from the cab and I was immediately impressed with the large - Malaysian style sculpture of a horse in the airy reception area.

The service is fantastic, for example, I am a strict vegetarian and the four restaurants at the Datai did not have much on their menu’s, however once I complained to the food and beverage director he ensured that a lot more options were available for me, created a whole new vegetarian menu for each of the four restaurants and checked that I was ok everyday of my stay.
