We also visited the Datai and given the climb down to the beach, I'd say that the double prices are not worth it.

Langkawi is duty free so we got around the expensive hotel prices by buying bottles of wine, and drinking them on the numerous terraces in the hotel.

The food and drink is petty expensive, its very expensive in fact, this is exacerbated by the fact that unless you wish to hire a car, you're pretty much trapped there.

Like other reviewers we found the food and drinks expensive - the breakfast buffet especially so - but we had a "stay 4 pay 3" deal on the room so that helped balance things out.
