As the day wound down we would lie back on our beach beds, sipping a cool beer and watch the sun dip down across the bay always with the Cicadas whistling away in the forest...

We arrived early but that wasn't a problem and were sat down, given a cool drink, checked in told about the resort and then informed that we would be upgraded to a lanai room and given free buffet breakfast for the duration of our stay.

The rooms are stylish and modern and the sea view rooms have fantastic views across the bay.

I thoroughly recommend a walk along the beach just after sunrise - cool fresh air, excellent views and no other people.

On arrival we were greeted, given a wet towel and a cool drink and sat down in the lovely lounge area where they took us through check in personally.

A few pointers: reserve a floorseated table at the Gulai House for extra atmosphere; take time to visit the next door Datai resort which would satisfy any spoiled Zen master; rent a car at the Langkawi airport and save yourself serious money by exploring the many good local restaurants and tourist attractions on the island.

After a great welcome and cool drink we were shown our room which was nice with a small Beach/ocean view (not all rooms) The hotel is right in the middle of a rain forest so we saw a few monkeys ( must always keep you doors closed ) and monitor lizards ( which also swim in the pool ) frogs , geckos etc...
