  1.
The best food on this beach is offered by the Gulai House, run by the second, more expensive Hotel on the same beach.

The staff were frinedly and very helpful, great pool, great food, great location, great rooms, clean beach (but do bring some sea/surf shoes as my friend got a nasty cut on her feet from the coral in the water but we still had a great time).

My wife and I were driving at night to the Gulai house (Really good restaurant) which is situated between the Datai and the Andaman, when we found out that we were pretty low on petrol.

The food and drink is petty expensive, its very expensive in fact, this is exacerbated by the fact that unless you wish to hire a car, you're pretty much trapped there.

The inclusive breakfast buffet were great but the order-in-room service + Japanese restaurant were over priced in our opinion.

I could go on, I could mention the fabulously warm sea, the monkeys all around you - be sure to look your doors as they have mastered the art of opening them and raiding the mini bar, the mangrove boat cruise (which is best done by hiring a car and driving to Tanjung Rhu beach), the helpful staff, the great buffet breakfast, the way the Island is still mostly unspoilt etc, etc ...

The food was very good, although eventually we got a bit tired of the beach barbecue to which we resorted every night because the Japanese teppanyaki restaurant was fully booked for every night by the time we got there, and the Gulai House restaurant similarly was booked every time we tried!

Good: very secluded spot with its very own private pristine beach, great service by all the staff (all very friendly and will go the extra mile to help you), excellent facilities (nice large rooms, wireless wifi in rooms, the list goes on), great restaurant although we didn't try the other Japanese restaurant at the resort, very modern buffet breakfast, wildlife all around you, very good pool area, entertainment each night by the local three piece band, brilliant gift shop with unique gifts/jewellery etc from all over malaysia and further abroad Bad: cicadas (very loud little critters although they seem to have an agreement with the management as they go to bed each night), you had to pay for using the resort facilities like snorkels, windsurfing etc.

We would thoroughly recommend booking a romantic dinner on the beach – it’s a wonderful experience with more food than you will be able to eat, in your own marquee, with a dedicated waiter/waitress, sand between your toes, the sound of waves, and the twinkling lights of Thailand on the horizon.
