    Meals are a bit pricey, but still reasonable for western visitors ( I had a meal in Sandakan for 8 Ringits, average in the hotels is about 80).

    The only memorable and high level thing there is Sunset Grill at the beach - excellent lunch and dinner selections, great food and cheerful and well-trained staff.

    The weather is always hot, even if it rains and the ocean breeze from the verandah is a bonus in the evening if you want to enjoy a wine on the deck.
