This mysteriously newly available room was on a smoking floor (it did smell, but not nearly as bad as the other floor) but on a ladies only floor.

However there was no room safe – I asked if I could move to a room with a safe and they said I could be upgraded to a room on one of the security floors (you needed to use your room cardkey in the lift to get to these floors) for an extra 2,500 yen per night.

In any other city you would get a swish room which is larger, more modern, lcd etc and use of a pool etc.
