Hotel Tugu is a wonderful boutique hotel, especially for couples looking to have a special holiday.

My boyfriend and I lucked up and found a small boutique hotel called Hotel Tugu in Bali - We have been wanting to travel to Southeast Asia for a while, but had not found anywhere that struck me as something worth visiting - We wanted to stay somewhere that FELT like the country we were visiting - not just some huge homogenized hotel that could be anywhere else in the world - Hotel Tugu was a delightful surprise that indeed felt exotic and enchanting - It is very small, though I am basing this mostly on the fact that we were never around people other than staff members, who incidentally made you feel as though you were the only guests of the hotel - The accommodations actually felt more like staying in someone's home - The hotel was built to house a portion of the owner's antique collection, including a Chinese temple that was going to be demolished until he bought it and reassembled it as part of the hotel and is now a large dining hall - Everything is very open and breezy - We had a ground floor room that had a plunge pool and an semi-outdoor bathroom - The plunge pool was nice, though I must say we didn’t use it very often because even though the outdoor temperature was very hot and balmy, the pool itself was FREEZING - The room itself was lovely - a huge king-size bed with curtains - a TV that we never took the cover off of - a sitting area (couch and coffee table) that we had breakfast at most mornings - a nice deep bathtub - and every day there were fresh flowers and offerings in the room - as well as a 'goodnight' quote written and placed on the bed each night with more flowers - Dining was amazing - We were there for 7 nights and we never had the same meal twice or in the same spot - At Hotel Tugu you can dine where ever you choose - We explored many of the menus that the hotel offers and ate in all of the dining rooms - including the Chinese temple at a table that could have seated 20 or so other people, though our only guest was a bat that flew around in the very top beams of the ceiling - Every night the menu was just for the two of us and the menus were personalized - One evening we took a cooking class after visiting the markets during the day to purchase ingredients and another evening we dined on tuna that we had caught on a fishing trip earlier that day - Everything about the hotel is about accommodating the guests and their wishes - The spa facility also was a wonderful surprise - a wonderful value for wonderful service - We took advantage of couples treatments almost every other day - One included massages, soaking in an outdoor garden tub together, dinner and more - such a wonderful way to spoil yourself and the one you love - and it really did spoil us - I have not found another spa to match it in attention or price - Staff would arrange for anything you can think of - day trips in a private car, such as golf at the Nirwana Bali golf course, fishing, snorkeling, tours of markets and temples - The beach was nice enough - though be advised that the surf is WAY too rough for casual swimming - Professional surfers come here to surf and kite-surf - if you want to swim you will have to take a day trip somewhere else - It truly was a place that focused on accommodating you - It is a perfect place to visit if you want to have time to spend alone with the one you love, and yet still want to seek some adventure and want to taste and experience the Balinese culture - I would highly recommend this as a place to go on a honeymoon or anniversary – or any occasion you want to make truly special - We loved it and look forward to being able to visit again, and perhaps one of the other Tugu hotels - I believe that there are 3 - A truly memorable trip -
