    Connecting through Paris on our way into India the day before, I learned of the terrorist attacks and immediately checked with the US State Department, which informed me that central Mumbai (and particularly the exact location of the Gordon House Hotel) was under police and military guard and that no one was allowed into the vicinity for at least the next three days (overlapping the dates of my reservation).
